paper chain people

The internet knows....
that I am in France. Suddenly all the words I typed (in english, because I can hardly write in french) had squiggly red lines under them....because they weren't French words. And facebook displays French advertisements. And thats all I can think of right now....but I know there are other strange french internet things. oh, ya....google too.

Went to a Thai restaurant today. Of course I had springrolls. The springrolls at every Thai or Vietnamese restaurant I go to in France are like no other I've had before.
The spring rolls are served like this:
step 1 - a piece of leaf lettuce the size of your hand.
step 2 - put about 3 or 4 mint leaves in a line on the middle of the lettuce leaf.
step 3 - put the heavily deepfried most delicious pork filled spring roll in the middle with the mint.
step 4 - roll the lettuce so that it is wrapped around the springroll.
step 5 - dip it in this sweet kinda spicy sauce with little grated carrots.
step 6 - wish you were eating one right now.

This is what I can afford to put on my wall.... not as nice as the wall paper and wall stickers from the previous post, but it will do. And look at the cute little bear head trying to poke his way into the picture....sneaky bastard.

As I find more scraps and things to put on the wall, the border will eventually go around the entire room....which wont take long because that is already half of my room almost. They can't be seen very well in these photos, but there are a couple Degas prints that I bought at le Musee D'Orssay. AND, you can see a some paper chain people above one of the Degas'. There is a chain of boys, and a chain of girls. Today is the first day I have successfully made my own paper chain people. I remember trying all throughout childhood, but it just wasn't as easy as a snowflake. Eventually I just gave up, and up until today I could never spawn my own paper chain people. But today, everything changed. Here is up-close proof....

I did some random exploring today around Bastille. I had finished sticky-tacking most of my photos and scraps to the wall. Some guy asked me out while I was crossing the bridge during my exploration. His teeth were dirty. That's all I could pay attention to. He looked me up and down before stopping to talk to me. That is so typical random french guy of him. He didn't speak any english, so I had to speak french....and he actually understood me, so we continued to talk for a few more minutes even though I refused his invitation, and his teeth were dirty. It was my first real conversation in french that lasted more than 1 minute, so I didn't want the conversation to end. I was trying to find a good route for jogging I was telling him, and he gave me some suggestions in the area. He asked me my name, and I shook his dry hand and told him my name was Dandy (first word that popped into my head), and continued across the bridge. I was kind of really lost, but eventually I made it home. When I finally made it back to my neighbourhood, and began recognizing things I got really excited, and was suddenly extremely happy to be home, and felt so comfortable where I was! It's strange how you sometimes don't have to go very far to realize how much you appreciate or miss something.

Two firsts today:
1) paper chain people - at the age of 21
2) first real french conversation - with dry hands creeper

C'etait un bon jour aujourdhui!

monsters on my floor

A view of the stairs from my little 7th floor apartment.
The lights are on a timer....it was past midnight and
while I was busy pretending I was a photographer
the lights turned off. This building is atleast 200 years
old. I took photos all the way to the light switch as a
light source....I was afraid of the monsters and ghosts.

On a lighter note, I can now officially work anywhere in France legally!!!! I woke up very early this morning to achieve that. Je suis très fatigué! I ate pringles for lunch. oops. I will allow myself to take a little nap....then go outside and study after. I want to have a picnic tonight on le pont des arts ....by the river. Maybe this weekend sometime? I am going out for dinner tonight avec mon petit copain! ....so happy to see my french face.

reunited with the untalkative bunny

Today I remembered a cartoon that I watched in high school. I don't know why exactly I liked it so much, but even still I think it is so funny. The facial expression of that little yellow bunny. And he has his own apartment? Incredible. I was trying to find an episode of the angry emu, but no luck. I will continue my search. I love the untalkative bunny.

tele marketing & au pair

I am a fille au pair for 3 wonderful little monsters in Paris!
Les enfants: Clementine - 6, Anais - 5, et Valentin - 2 (deux filles et un garçon....)
I have just started this week. This job is still shiny and new, and les enfants are very well behaved. I have nothing to complain about....yet.
So I am preparing dinner, and les enfants have just finished taking a bath. La mere told me earlier that day that I could be expecting a delivery of groceries to the house. Anyway, the doorbell rings. I'm in the midst of making some kind of dinner that required me to get my hands dirty, so I awkwardly answer the door, and of course les enfants come running to see the company. They are nude. The man is trying to explain something to me, but I can't understand. I see that his shirt say "Tele market"....and he is holding a clip board....and he is asking for the le monsieur ou la madame of the house. A telemarketer I think? Boring.... So I try to tell him, sorry we are not interested, thanks, come another time. Meanwhile, Clementine the talker is telling this stranger all we have done today and that la mere is bringing pizza for dinner tonight etc.... et Anais is running around the hallway nude, running between this dudes legs, stepping on his feet etc.... et Valentin, I'm running after him so he doesn't attempt the stairs. The telemarketer seems really disappointed that he can't come in, and that les parents are not here...."domage" he says. I wonder why he is so stressed.... there are some neighbours he could go sell to. But I am persistent, "nous ne sommes pas intéressés"....we are not interested!

During dinner that night .... le pere, "did the grocery delivery come tonight?
"No, but there was a persistent telemarketer at the door tonight" - moi
"Tele Market is the name of the company we order our groceries from...."
embarrassment - moi
"I guess we will just have to order pizza for the rest of the week" - le pere

....luckily, the guy came back later with the groceries. relief.

you can put these on your wall

http://www.fermlivingshop.us/
this website has everything I have ever wanted to decorate my walls with. It is also not too expensive. When I actually have my own room someday, in my own apartment....I will have a shopping spree on this site. Also, they have tea towels and pillows etc. Anyway, here are a few of my favourites.

lonely little blog

My blog is looking quite unloved at the moment. I would be very disappointed with myself if I let it become one of those lonely 1 post blogs that are wasting decent addresses. I have had basically no internet for the past month. When I have been able to scavenge a few moments of internet, email and facebook become a priority. I have decided that I think I'm tired of facebook. It is becoming a drag, and I am forced to go on and put in a few short moments of creeping. But even creeping is becoming a bore.
Jeepers.
I finally bought film for my polaroid camera. It is exensive, so I am trying to be selective of what I am taking photos of. The first photo I took with the film tonight is of my sister and I.... my sister: drunk hag
me: ninja pimp peasant
Yet somehow.... one of my new fave photos.
Must be because its a polaroid.
